Burt also credited his father with teaching him everything he knows, while a tribute from Jason Myers' racing team called Gary the family patriarch and Jason's best friend.

Gary's family hasn't disclosed what caused his death. However, reports indicate that his health had been declining before he died.

Gary Myers Was a Bowman Gray Stadium Legend

The connection between Gary Myers and Bowman Gray Stadium lasted for most of his life.

Gary collected 38 Modified wins at the quarter-mile Winston-Salem track, becoming one of the names closely associated with its racing history.

His career wasn't confined to Bowman Gray.

Between 1974 and 1978, Gary made 46 starts at NASCAR's highest level. He also raced in the Grand National East Series and spent years competing in Modified racing.

Later, Gary helped establish the SMART Modified Tour and captured the series championship in 1996.

Following his death, Bowman Gray remembered his accomplishments at the track and offered condolences to Pam Myers, their sons, and the rest of the family.

Racing Runs in the Myers Family

Calling this a racing family might be an understatement.

The Myers racing family spans four generations, and Gary wasn't the one who started it.

His father, Billy Myers, raced at Bowman Gray in the 1950s, as did Gary's uncle, Bobby Myers.

Gary eventually took his own place behind the wheel before another generation of Myers racers arrived.

As Burt Myers and Jason Myers' father, Gary became a mentor to both sons as they built Modified racing careers of their own.
